Surreal Moment

I had the most surreal moment in my 5 years of teaching. I taught my students on the story of Emmett Till. The majority of my students had never heard of him and all of my students are black with the exception of one latin girl who is half black. Before I was even completely done with the lesson, many of the students were bursting into tears while the other students comforted them. Other students were filled with rage from the injustice! Some of my students happen to be the same age that Emmett Till was when he was murdered. The class was absolutely silent for the last ten minutes of class. We all just sat there. Once they left to go to lunch, all the other teachers and administration kept coming up to me telling me why my class seemed so quiet. I didn’t see this coming. I’m grateful for this moment
